You can add a background image to a normal editbox/listbox/button/etc by using GDI.

This is why mIRC makes learning a real programming language so hard, it makes a normal user assume that picture windows are actually a special type of window when they're actually no different to simple dialogs, the only thing that's different is the way mIRC implements them.
