"observable universe" refers to the part of the universe that we can observe. So basically, as far as our most powerful telescopes/satellites can see.
As for the universe going on forever, it's probably best not to start that topic up, there's lotsa clever people here who'll give their opinion on whether that's true or not...the conversation could go on forever <G>
