Forums mIRC Help Using mIRC over LAN as chat client

Just a question from someone who's barely ever used mIRC:
Can mIRC be used over a LAN as a chat client? (for example instead of Vypress Chat, Network Assistant, etc)
If so, who should be the server, how would you set it up, and would you be able to use it if the Internet connection was closed?
