Default mIRC behaviour would not have you excess flood when joining too many channels
Options > IRC > Options > Show: Nicks on join This is basically a /who and if you have a lot of channels (with a lot of nicknames), you WILL trigger an excess flood.
Just checked, I have nothing ticked on that option page.
