If /registration was only to work with a registered copy, how would mIRC know that it was a registered copy? Typing /registration to register surely means that it's an unregistered copy in the first place. I think I'm lost!

Never compare yourself to others - they're more screwed up than you think.

To me, /register would sound like a command to add registration info, /registration would sound like a command to show you what you have.

Except many networks already have a /register command. It works similar to the /identify command.

There's no reason anyone should be asking this question on here The implication in this statement is that just because someone isn't bright enough to find the place themselves means that they are not worthy of help... which I find rather disturbing. Of course, the asker could just be overtired, but that never happens to clever people, I guess... For what it's worth, I just shifted everything from a desktop to a laptop, and of course mIRC registration was lost, meaning I had to re-add the code. That's another scenario for why people might need to ask... PastMaster

The implication in this statement is that just because someone isn't bright enough to find the place themselves means that they are not worthy of help... which I find rather disturbing. You're not getting the point. It seems rather odd that a sudden influx if people are asking "Where do I enter my registration info?". This suggests one of the following. - All these users just registered and failed to read the email instructions.
- All these users registered a long time ago and successfully entered their registration info the first time, but suddenly decided to format their computer and install mIRC 6.10 but took the time and wrote their reg information on a piece of paper... but failed to remember the whole Help > Register process.
- These users unscrupulously generated their own registration info, and thus have no instructional email to guide them.
- These users unscrupulously generated a NEW registration key because their old "serial" stopped working in 6.10.. and they can't enter this new information because the menu item is still missing. (i obviously dont know if this is how mIRC behaves, but it would explain why people cant find the option)
The point of my post, in addition to the above points, is that giving out the /registration command is completely unnecessary. I would never turn down someone's request for help, I just think we should what answers are appropriate to give. I believe we can safely tell users: "Goto this page and enter your email address. Instructions will be emailed to you."- Raccoon
Well. At least I won lunch. Good philosophy, see good in bad, I like!

Or they purchased a new computer, or the purchased a second computer, or they want to use their registration key on a PC at school, or at work, etc. These users unscrupulously generated a NEW registration key because their old "serial" stopped working in 6.10.. and they can't enter this new information because the menu item is still missing. (i obviously dont know if this is how mIRC behaves, but it would explain why people cant find the option) I just tested using an illegal key, it was one that said it was for 6.03, it successfully worked in 6.1, so this whole argument is simply fiction.

A mIRC registration is a lifetime one - that's not possible if each version were to have it's own key.

Would they then not have the original email they were suggested to print out for later reference? I don't know about everyone else, but I get roughly 500-750 emails a day. I don't save an email usually for more than a month. If I saved all my email, I'd need a seperate harddrive just to accomodate it.

why cant we just give the dude an answer and move on? there are many people out there who use webmail.. now some webmail is free.. and since they are free.. they dont last. i have had 9 email accounts deleted because the services was no longer supported... so if i were to use my old email to get a reg from that site.. i would have to use my old email.. and it would try and send the email there... hrmmm.. how does one solve that issue?

I agree, I say you give someone the benefit of the doubt unless they give you reason to think they are doing something illegal. If the guy said "I just got this serial off of a website, how do I load it into mIRC?" thats another story. But nothing this guy said indicates he is doing anything illegal/unethical/etc.

Take a look at http://www.mirc.com/reglost.html it does take into consideration that your email may have changed since you registered mIRC and will send it to your current email addy.
