Forums Connection Issues yet another unable to connect enquiry

I'm at a loss; for years i used mIRC in conjunction with AOL, but nevertheless, I connected to Dalnet, no problems, ever, (well, save during the denial of service attack.)
Then, as of march 30th, connection became impossible. The messge I receive is
Unable to connect to server (connection timed out)
ad infinitum
My MIRC is version 6.12.
I can manage to connect to IRC via other servers (e.g., undernet, but unfortunately it's dalnet I want...)
What the devil could have happened to create this impasse all of a sudden?
I'm at a loss; there are no firewalls active, identd seems not to be a problem, and for the luvva god, please help!

Welcome - And fear not!

DALnet has been having issues with it's servers as of late (round about March 30th too) - I can't say why it is because I simply don't know, however, an educated guess would be that it's due to attacks again. It's unlikely you'll be able to connect through irc.dal.net, and even it's individual server addresses are hard to get to.

Try connecting to these servers, I have seen others around the network connected to them:

dragons.ga.us.dal.net
powertech.no.eu.dal.net (the one I use, but it's usually hard to get on this one)
mesra.kl.my.dal.net
jingo-r.dal.net (this forwarded me to slimey.dal.net, but I've seen people connected to it. Probably depends on your location)

You could try using different ports too, such as 7000 or 6669. Try connecting to the server IP too, use /dns server.name.here and then /server ip.of.server.here.

As always, this will probably soon blow over and it'll be just as easy to connect once again.

As an added note, I would suggest upgrading to 6.14 - this doesn't effect your connection but it's always a good idea to keep up with the latest version.

Dear mentality,

Bucketloads of ta for having been so prompt to respond to my plaintive mewlings. it was especially nice to hear that the world at large is experiencing large-scale bebuggerment with Dalnet, and not just me. A thoroughly rotten sentiment, i concede, but misery loves company. Already i can feel that my facial tic is slowing down. ta also for the list of additional servers, it's much appreciated.
