while trying to download files through IRC I've encountered some odd problem... I'm able to get to some fserves but when trying to use some others I see
'02Server 14Notice: This server is using an alternate server method, please make sure your DCC Server is active and set to port 59. /dccserver +sc on 59. This is a mIRC command.'
Even after i type in this command, I'm still unable to get to those fserves. I've pmed those fserve's owners and they seem unable to solve this problem too.they say others don't encounter such problems. I'm using win98 SE, I didn't set up any firewall, neither my internet provider did. I have static IP adress.
While connecting to server I also see '-irc.mircx.com- *** Your forward and reverse DNS do not match, ignoring hostname. [62.233.171.222 != 62.233.177.222]'. The owner of mentioned fserve said that the file he dcc sent me was going to the 62.233.177.222 adress and I guess it's the server's IP adress because it certainly isn't mine.
Could somebody tell me what's going on? confused

You have not supplied enough information about your network or internet connection.

You say you have a static IP, but what is it?

Is it a one like 192.168.1.xxx or something else.

The 192 is an internal ip that is normally gotten from a router or dhcp server. That is also not your external internet ip.

So you need to supply more information before anyone may be able to help you.

First, be aware that when using dcc server (the alternate method referred to) you have to dcc to the ip addy, not the nick. In any mIRC window, type /help dcc server and scroll down to that area to be sure you are typing the command correctly.

re your dns, its possible that your isp is having some dns probs, or the sender is. HAve you tried checking it yourself to see if the correct info is showing? Try to /dns yourself, ( dns your nick and then dns the ip, or //say $ip to compare them). To be sure mIRC is getting the correct ip for you, in any mIRC window type /localinfo -u

The DNS problem is that the IP he is connecting from (62.233.177.222) resolves to netgate.devs.futuro.pl, but that resolves to 62.233.171.222, so the server uses his IP as a host rather than netgate.devs.futuro.pl.

so what does this 'alternate serving method' mean?? what's the difference between dcc server and the other fserve? i already know that by dcc server I connect directly to the other user's IP, but how is it in the other case?

I have i-net access via LAN (a wireless one). When i check 'normal' lookup method in local info, after connecting I can see my internal IP adress (192.168...) there. If I do that - I'm able to dcc send files but unable to acess those dcc servers; when I enable the 'server' lookup method, it returns my isp's IP - and I'm unable to dcc send and still it happened only once that I accesed a dcc server. could it be that from inside the network it's different than from outside? I heard that when you access IRC from a local network you can be unable to use some of it's features (send, get;etc) and it happens randomly. is that true?
