My brothers installed some scripts to my system.They came with self register code. But it is not legal.

My questions is this, How can I unregister that scripts.They says " Licenced to FAST TRIVIA BOT".
I searched in registry , but i could not find anything
HELP ME!

Open regedit, follow this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\mIRC

Delete the License and UserName keys

Restart mIRC

It really isnt a good idea to tell ppl to randomly delete stuff in their registry, and to not even advise them to make a backup first made me shudder. While its possible the original poster is quite capable of mucking about in their registry, its not a good idea to assume that.

To the original poster: i would do some investigating about what/where those scripts effect so you can be sure you delete everything. You can try googling it for starters. I'm unclear as to whether you are trying to delete scripts added to your valid copy of mIRC, or if something installed a fake mIRC and thats what you're trying to get rid of.

While I agree that more warning could have been convayed in his message, I feel it's unfair to accuse tye of suggesting the user delete random stuff from the registry.

tye's solution was simple and accurate, and would require experience in using the registry in order understand what he even meant. Certain pre-requisits are expected of internet users seeking support... such as rudimentary windows skills, precautionary backups, virus protection and safe surfing.

I think it's safe to say that the registry has been around long enough to expect people to "get it" by now. Must we still cover our posts in legalese and common sense?

Someone might want to yell at Khaled/Tjerk then, http://www.mirc.co.uk/help/password.html doesn't say you should make a backup either, just says using the registry is dangerous.

It wasnt my intent to pick on the poster, but i would rather we be safe than sorry. The original poster mentioned the registry, but that could as easily have been cause someone told him it might be there. True, he didnt say he had checked the area mentioned, but logic would have dictated to me thats the firstplace i would have checked, so it added to a degree of doubt. I also didnt intend "random stuffs" to be insulting, "stuffs" is my all inclusive descriptive word, but you're right, i can see how it could be misinterpreted and i should have phrased it better. My apologies to the poster if i offended them

Yes, we can go to an extreme with our warnings and cautions, but i would rather take a little more time and add them. Honestly, i think the number of ppl who "get" the registry and the repurcussions of mucking about in there are still in the minority. IMO, i would rather waste my time telling someone something they already knew, than assume they did and have them end up more confused. Experience has shown me that far more ppl seeking help arent experienced in "rudimentary windows skills, precautionary backups, virus protection and safe surfing" than the opposite.

codemastr: As for suggesting a back up, thats just a thingie (another of my fav all inclusive terms) i have since someone got into trouble cause i didnt tell them, and i always kick myself when i forget to tell someone and just assumed they knew they should. And while i'm not going to yell at Khaled and Tjerk any more than my intent was to "yell at" the poster, i would personally be more comfy if the warning included making a backup.
