Hi

I have a problem with DCC. I have WinXP and used a tutorial to configurate IdentD, port 113 and DCC X, port 500X for routing-firewall.

But when I deactivated host mask and typed in /dccserver +sc on 59 and use trigger he says:

This server is using an alternate server method, please make sure your DCC Server is active and set to port 59. /dccserver +sc on 59. This is a mIRC command.

What could be the problem?

you actually don't need to use the DCC fserver port 59, you should use the standard dcc usage in mIRC

if you set the router/firewall to use port 500X for dcc, remember to also tell mirc to use this port
view>options>connect>options>[advanced button]
set the dcc port or port range in here, and then mIRC will know to use the port/ports corresponding to what you set in XP

Hope this helps

The tutorial actually told me to set that option: I already put 5000 and 5004 into first and last port.

And in the DCC server it says also listen on port 59.
Also IdentD is on port 113.

Still, I can't get DCC to work. When I try to trigger, they say:

<Firewall Notice> i'm using an alternative serving method. please type '/dccserver +sc on 59' to connect

The DCCSERVER method they're using at port 59 works in a way that requires the receiver to have the port forwarded, instead of the sender. In mirc_options/connect/options/advanced, you leave your dcc port range the way it was before, because dccserver doesn't use *that* dcc range. Instead, if you have been able to dcc send to others using the normal dcc method, ie "/dcc send othernick filename", then after doing the "/dccserver +sc on 59" that they tell you to do, all you should need to do is configure your router/firewall to enable port 59 the same way you're also enabling ports 5000 thru 5004.

As an aside, if they're using 59 because they aren't able to configure their own dcc ports, it might be easier for them to use the passive dcc send feature that was added in mIRC 6.17. It still requires the receiver to have open dcc send ports, but it would allow you to receive within your 5000-5004 range without configuring port 59.

to configure your windowsXP firewall for use with mIrc Go HERE

If you are using a Router instead try this

mIrc uses a random range of ports for DCC which used to be between 1024 and 5000 (quite a lot, but we dont need them all to use DCC....anyway why have almost four thousand ports to choose from when 5 or more will do? In the next steps we'll configure 5 to 6 ports for DCC

Step 1. Find out the Internal Ip Address of the Computer you are using..while in mIrc type /run command ... Then when the Dos Window opens type ipconfig and look for something similar to this

Ethernet adapter :
IP Address 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

Note the IP Address, you need this to configure the Router, in our case 192.168.1.100 (Yours may Differ)

-----------------------

Step 2. Open up your Router Configuration and forward ports to the IP Address you just got when doing step 1......In this case we will forward ports 4000 up to 4005 to your IP Address 192.168.1.100 (Yours may Differ) .. Thats a total of 6 ports for DCC...(Should you want more ports..its 1 port per dcc). After making changes to your router configuration click Apply or Save or whatever option it gives you to save changes and exit.

----------------------

Step 3. Go back to mirc Options (normally accessible by holding down the ALT-key and hitting the letter O (Alt + O) ...then look for DCC, then look for a sub section below DCC called options..and look where it says DCC Ports First Last (The default options here are First 1024 Last 5000)

OR in newer mIRC versions view>options>connect>options>[Advanced] we change these to First 4000 and Last 4005 (This tells mirc to use only ports 4000 to 4005 for DCC)

----------------------

Ok, the post from Scot tells me just the same thing as the tutorial for routing with XP.

I really set first: 5000 and last: 5004.

I also added ports IdentD: 113, DCC1: 5000, DCC2: 5001, DCC3: 5002, DCC4: 5003 and DCC5: 5004.

But I can't get triggered.
The IP address corresponded with the /run command IPconfig.
And DCC-server is set to enable DCC server on port 59.

NOTE: Should I just add a port 59?? and set: first 59, last 59. I tried that but it didn't work...

10 to 1 the other guys server that is sending you that message has gone belly up, and that command needs as you have been told port 59 forwarded to your pc through your router. So if u have done that and it still dont work its likely that hes just not sending.

If I use /dcc chat nick: it keeps staying on: Waiting for acknowledgement.

And I doubt that there is a any reason why he wouldn't send. By the way, it's an automated message I also get these:

Server Notice: This server is using an alternate server method, please make sure your DCC Server is active and set to port 59. /dccserver +sc on 59. This is a mIRC command.

What a mysterious problem... wish I knew more about basic computer knowledge, but I don't.

The DCC protocol works like this, if i offer you a dcc chat/send request i send you a notice asking you to connect to my IP on a certain port, for you to complete that request my port needs to be accessible, therefore if the dcc fails it is normally My fault because my port did not let you connect, most DCC failures are caused by the senders port being blocked

try a dcc chat/send with your friend not some automated bot script that this dude is running

That could be the case. I did a port check on 59 with this internet page and it said timeout...

But I disabled all firewalls and such...

Oh, wait, you say it's not my fault, but the sender's fault? So why did I get a timeout when checking my port 59? Timeout does mean it's blocked doesn't it?

That's maybe because you DCC on another port than 59, did you use port 59?

But this person here explicitly tells me to listen on port 59?

Fserv SERVERS may listen on port 59 but I dont think anyone can actually DCC on port 59. I agree with the other comments if you can dcc chat friends or dcc from other folks not running an fserve then it must be the fserve end.
Just had a thought isnt port 59 what mirc uses to listen for access into a fserv directory? Cant help too much further as I never used fserv its too inefficient.

I finally got it to work. Actually it wasn't difficult. I just typed in the wrong nick: /dcc chat +nick instead of /dcc chat nick.
I literally copied the nick stated in the right window. What are those signs for really?

The odd thing is: I first have to trigger the /ctcp, then it says that I have to listen to port 59, and after that when I type in /dcc chat nick then I can get in.

If I only type in /dcc chat nick, I just chat with that person and no files are visible to me. Or it could be that the fileserver was too busy!

Anyway, thanks for you support!

EDIT: actually it didn't work.
I could get into their server, and see their files and even browse and retrieve the file:

It said Sending File. But after a second: Sending Failed. Disabling the firewall didn't work either.

What's the problem this time??? It has something to do with their firewall I think. Because after trying to get the file, again I get a firewall notice about port 59.

Send has failed on try 1 of 3. Type /ctcp seaburnt NoReSend to cancel any further attempts. Attempting to ReSend... - SysReset 2.53

The sender should a) have a range of ports set, b) NOT have passive dcc turned on and c) have a hole in whatever modem/router and/or firewalls he's running for the port range he has mIRC set to use. The only thing that'll stop the file transfer on the receive side is if you have mIRC set to block the sender, the filetype or dcc sends. Since you're making the outgoing request, your firewall won't block the transfer.

I didn't block sender, filetype or dcc.

So it has to be that he's on passive. But the thing is... I talked to that person so he couldn't possibly be on passive, or he didn't want to change it to active?

The odd thing is, it can't be the sender's fault because some people can get in.

His server is sending you this right?
"Server Notice: This server is using an alternate server method, please make sure your DCC Server is active and set to port 59. /dccserver +sc on 59. This is a mIRC command."

And can you run your fileserver? (if you dont have one then use the line below this one)
OR can you do a /DCC CHAT SOMENICK and it connects

If so, have you forwarded the port 59 to your pc, the same as you forwarded what ever dcc ports your using.

Right, he is sending that to me when I /ctcp him.

When I type /dcc chat nick I could get in that day, but now it seems that it isn't possible anymore. If I type /dcc chat nick then I get: Waiting for acknowledgement.

Nothing more...

This is getting ridiculous, nobody can solve this problem... If anyone could try it themselves? Try to get onto their server just to test it out if the filesending works?

It's on irc.irchighway.net, channel #nakama, try to get the /ctcp trigger to work from user: seaburnt or mysticcat.
