In v6.17, wheel scrolling of text windows is lagged, that is, there's some "residual scrolling" after the wheel is no longer moved. It's definitely not so in the snappy 6.16.

Another side effect is lagged window dragging. To be able to see it better, try dragging around an empty query window on an empty mIRC desktop, then dragging a full query window on some active channels. It changes from smooth to clearly lagged.

This was exhibited on a 550MHz Pentium 3. Perhaps these problem aren't apparent, or less so, on faster computers.

I have same problem with my 2600+ athlon, scrolling with wheel takes all cpu time what is available.

Some more details...

The OS is Win98SE.

The problem appears to be more pronounced when there are more applications running, besides mIRC, though it's not about lack of CPU time. Perhaps GDI related somehow?

I see it on 2.00 ghz Pentium M when set to stay at 2.00 ghz. The effect is worse when I'm on variable speed (800mhz --> 1.08 ghz --> 1.86ghz --> 2.00 ghz) (SpeedStep). Win XP SP2. I do have quite a lot of applications running though.

Havn't had that problem so far on my athlon 2600. I'm not entirely sure what governs how fast its displayed, but i've got a gb of ram and an nvidia 6600gt if that helps.

Kind of sounds like the descriptions from this thread: https://forums.mirc.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=bugreports&Number=151450

I went back to mIRC 6.16 as a result.

Yes, it sounds similar. Can anyone confirm it's related to having more more applications open, even when these aren't using CPU?

Same problem with just mIRC open or other programs open as well.
