If I copied the output right, and copied the mIRC release dates right. (One release date didn't have a release, but I still included it from www.mirc.co.uk/versions.txt.)
The days are on the left. The right side used $duration instead of my own custom duration.

Well... some weeks ago I used MS Excel in order to plot a graphic showing The mIRC release dates against mIRC version:

I hope the graphic appears... otherwise goto http://www.augux.hpg.com.br/mirc_versions.jpg

As you can see, this is a simple graphic. But it's useful if you have nothing to do!!!

BTW, the vertical lines represent January 1st.

Bye!

*drool*

I got a little bored and made a few charts: http://chris.d0rk.org/misc/mirc-versions/images/

You can grab the source to the perl script I wrote to generate those here (the actual script is mirc-versions.pl). It will even work in the future as long as the format of versions.txt stays the same. (Note: If you're not familiar with Perl, then you probably shouldn't bother downloading the script.)

Enjoy wink

Sunday April 6th, 2003

That's around the time it should be released provided he doesn't want to break a record. I hope I didn't miscalculate this.

I parsed versions.txt to convert all release dates to ctimes, then used Vernier Software's Graphical Analysis to graph ctime-since-first-version vs. version number. I noticed it looked like a square root function, which is really a power function, so I told the software to fit a power function to the data. It gave me the equation and showed the curve on the data, and it looked good. I then solved the function for its variable to get a function I can use to predict the release date of a future version of mIRC. I assumed the next version will be 6.1, since it is taking so long, so I plugged it in. The date I came up with:
Jan 2, 2003.
Apparently Khaled is getting slow in his old age, or something smile

Let's look at it this way. August 2002 to February 2004. Now, Aug 2002 was when the last one was released. February 2004 will probably be the next release after the next one, since doing it around it's birthday seems nice. Now, that's 18 months inbetween those two dates above. I take 18/2, and get 9 months. So I take 9, add it to August 2002, and get May 2003. So chances are great for May/June 2003. At least my chances of getting this right aren't as bad as the chances George W. Bush has at getting reelected, with all of those predictions going against him from every source.
