If I copied the output right, and copied the mIRC release dates right. (One release date didn't have a release, but I still included it from www.mirc.co.uk/versions.txt.)The days are on the left. The right side used $duration instead of my own custom duration. 71days | 10wks 1day 116days | 16wks 4days 7days | 1wk 233days | 33wks 2days 50days | 7wks 1day 133days | 19wks 35days | 5wks 65days | 9wks 2days 121days | 17wks 2days 95days | 13wks 4days 132days | 18wks 6days 112days | 16wks 104days | 14wks 6days 42days | 6wks 168days | 24wks 31days | 4wks 3days 170days | 24wks 2days 22days | 3wks 1day 93days | 13wks 2days 14days | 2wks 129days | 18wks 3days 19days | 2wks 5days 83days | 11wks 6days 31days | 4wks 3days 93days | 13wks 2days 63days | 9wks 6days | 6days 64days | 9wks 1day 38days | 5wks 3days 74days | 10wks 4days 9days | 1wk 2days 33days | 4wks 5days 32days | 4wks 4days 12days | 1wk 5days 29days | 4wks 1day 2days | 2days 11days | 1wk 4days 18days | 2wks 4days 6days | 6days 39days | 5wks 4days 8days | 1wk 1day 50days | 7wks 1day 9days | 1wk 2days 28days | 4wks 5days | 5days 3days | 3days 5days | 5days 5days | 5days 3days | 3days 3days | 3days 2days | 2days Below is the raw date I used. 16/08/2002 6.03 06/06/2002 6.02 10/02/2002 6.01 03/02/2002 6.0 15/06/2001 5.91 26/04/2001 5.9 14/12/2000 5.82 09/11/2000 5.81 05/09/2000 5.8 07/05/2000 5.71 02/02/2000 5.7 23/09/1999 5.61 03/06/1999 5.6 19/02/1999 5.51 08/01/1999 5.5 24/07/1998 5.41 23/06/1998 5.4 04/01/1998 5.31 13/12/1997 5.3 11/09/1997 5.11 28/08/1997 5.1 21/04/1997 5.02 02/04/1997 5.0 09/01/1997 4.72 09/12/1996 4.7 07/09/1996 4.6 06/07/1996 4.52 30/06/1996 4.5 27/04/1996 4.1 20/03/1996 4.0 06/01/1996 3.92 28/12/1995 3.9 25/11/1995 3.8 24/10/1995 3.72 12/10/1995 3.7 13/09/1995 - released mIRC v3.64 patch 11/09/1995 3.64 31/08/1995 3.6 13/08/1995 3.51 07/08/1995 3.5 29/06/1995 3.42 21/06/1995 3.3, v3.4 2/05/1995 3.2 23/04/1995 3.1 26/03/1995 2.8c etc... 21/03/1995 2.8b (not released) 18/03/1995 2.7a 13/03/1995 2.6b (a dud version - was unstable) 08/03/1995 2.5a 05/03/1995 2.4a 02/03/1995 2.3a 28/02/1995 2.1a

Well... some weeks ago I used MS Excel in order to plot a graphic showing The mIRC release dates against mIRC version: I hope the graphic appears... otherwise goto http://www.augux.hpg.com.br/mirc_versions.jpgAs you can see, this is a simple graphic. But it's useful if you have nothing to do!!! BTW, the vertical lines represent January 1st. Bye!

LOL, this is just too good! How about a graph showing release dates relative to the number of changes made?

*drool* I got a little bored and made a few charts: http://chris.d0rk.org/misc/mirc-versions/images/You can grab the source to the perl script I wrote to generate those here (the actual script is mirc-versions.pl). It will even work in the future as long as the format of versions.txt stays the same. (Note: If you're not familiar with Perl, then you probably shouldn't bother downloading the script.) Enjoy -chris

That's around the time it should be released provided he doesn't want to break a record. I hope I didn't miscalculate this.

I parsed versions.txt to convert all release dates to ctimes, then used Vernier Software's Graphical Analysis to graph ctime-since-first-version vs. version number. I noticed it looked like a square root function, which is really a power function, so I told the software to fit a power function to the data. It gave me the equation and showed the curve on the data, and it looked good. I then solved the function for its variable to get a function I can use to predict the release date of a future version of mIRC. I assumed the next version will be 6.1, since it is taking so long, so I plugged it in. The date I came up with: Jan 2, 2003. Apparently Khaled is getting slow in his old age, or something -Nemo

Let's look at it this way. August 2002 to February 2004. Now, Aug 2002 was when the last one was released. February 2004 will probably be the next release after the next one, since doing it around it's birthday seems nice. Now, that's 18 months inbetween those two dates above. I take 18/2, and get 9 months. So I take 9, add it to August 2002, and get May 2003. So chances are great for May/June 2003. At least my chances of getting this right aren't as bad as the chances George W. Bush has at getting reelected, with all of those predictions going against him from every source.
