Can't figure this one out --

mIRC seems to work fine for hours on end.
Connection is completely stable.

Open up an internet based video game, like CounterStrike:Source, and my IRC connection drops almost immediately.

Anyway to fix this?

It's probably because the game is eating up most of the connection's bandwidth and the IRC server isn't recieving a ping reply (pong) from you so it disconnects you.

You can get a program like NetLimiter to limit the bandwidth use of programs... just limit the use of the game enough to keep IRC running without making the game unplayable.

Hrm, on broadband, and I know counterstrike doesn't use THAT much bandwith. Any other ideas?
