If you are noticing these "freeze ups" while you are typing, do you have one or more scripts that uses the ON INPUT event?
Having an older, slower machine, I avoid that type of script like the plague.
The time required to process an ON INPUT event, (one of the few times I tried using a themed script), ended up showing my message a good 5-10 seconds after I had typed it. Way too long for a conversation.
