There's an option to set which ports to use in DCC sending for mirc. However everytime i change them to a different set of ports say like 1000-1010 it doesnt send. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but it would really help if i could change the port set number down because i think 1024-5000 is just a tad to many. I've tried several different ways of doing it but none of them work. But when I go use a BitchX client and type '/dcc send -p 8345 username filename' as long as the port is forwarded to the computer running that client it sends perfectly fine.

If I try to do that with mirc it says it can't work. I really would like not to open nearly 5000 ports just so i can DCC send because I doubt I'd even get 100 sends through at a time.

Also maybe make a certain function for the local ip's to autodetect if the person you are sending to is on a network then use your network ip instead of external ip. That I don't see possible to do but it would be nice.

Anyway thanks guys.

Btw, real WAN IP can be retrieved from most new UPnP routers. Windows XP uses this protocol to automatically forward ports, etc. Its not that standard though.
I think implementation practices can be retrieved from Miranda Instant Messenger client, which also uses UPnP to automatically open ports for file transfers.
