I am having a problem with mirc freezing. I can start the program, but when i try to recieve any type of file mirc freezes for about 10-20 seconds. Then it does it again. Even when I close mirc it still does it. The only way to stop the freezing is to reboot my computer. I have tried numerous things.Uninstall/install, trying older versions (currently V6.16), even so far as to do a system recovery and and reinstall everything. Mirc worked fine for me for about a year and a half. Untill the last version 6.15 and 6.16 came out. I have used the same programs all this time too. I have had a full diagnostic test ran on my computer and every thing is fine. It has to be software. This is driving me INSANE. I have removed all syware/spybots/viruses and i am running norton personal firewall 2003.

Here are my systems specs:
HP Pavillion 523n
2200+ AMD Athlon Processor (1.8 Ghz)
512 MB DDR
SDRAM Memory
80 GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive
32 MB DDR SDRAM Memory
KM266 Graphics with 32 Mb shared video memory
Windows XP Home Edition SP2

!!Again any information on this would be very much appreciated. If someone can figure this out and let me know, and make sure it does fix it I would be willing to offer $$. grin

if it doesn't stop after closing mirc it's not a mirc problem but a problem of either your hardware or your os. i have that with a hdd if it's overheating once i access files it shows the same symptons and only rebooting fixes it.

I've had this problem also, and with other file-sharing applications.

What processor are you using?

my guess is that you are running Norton anti-virus 2004. Disable that when ur downloading but make sure to scan the file manually afterwards.

If ur not runnin norton then i dunno

For those that posted I am using and AMD atthlon Processor, and it's not the anitvirus, because what you are talking about is when the file is complete norton AV scans the file and slows everything down. I keep it disabled just for that and this is happening while the file is still downloading. As for the OS or Hardware problem., I had a complete OS diagnostic test done on it and there are no problems. Computer techs that didi it said it was a software problem. This only happens when I use Mirc. This never used to happen on versions before 6.15. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME I AM STRESSING OUT ABOUT THIS!!!!.

Try with a clean fresh mIRC downloaded from this site, so no scripts. If it still happens then, it's probably something else, if it doesn't happen then, you should check your loaded scripts. Using a badly written dll or something might give you those hangs, and if the dll cannot unload properly it might even affect your system afterwards...
