I recieved the message while on mIRC : "Your host is masked (Rizon-B50A43.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net)". Then I am instructed to read the MOTD but when I typle in the command to do so (/motd) it says that the file is missing. I basically figure that this guy pltn13@pacbell.net is messing with me somehow, piggybacking on my host name or something, but don't know how to fix it. Someone please help me solve this problem!! Thanks.
Ryan

That notice is sent to tell you that the server is automatically masking your hostname so that other IRC users on that network cannot see it. Rizon-B50A43.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net is the masked hostname you've been given which means anytime someone /whois'es you or you join a channel that will be displayed instead of your real hostname. It's a simple (but effective) security measure to prevent people from harvesting active addresses from IRC and trying to exploit them.

Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and stupid comments are intentional.

Why laugh at someone simply because they didn't know something?

1. Some IRC networks operate in unique ways, including how they mask IP addresses or even if they bother to at all.
2. Some people are new to IRC and generally don't know alot about it yet.
3. Some people have some experience with computers and IRC but are still brave enough to ask a question - people who laugh at others who want to gain some knowledge are more ignorant than those asking the questions.

Next time you step in some freshly laid, steaming dog poop and some git laughs at you, think back to this little bit of fun you are having.

We do not laugh at people on this forum. Re-read what Watchdog said, accept it, or simply do the mature thing and don't post laughing comments that make people feel stupid, when they aren't smile
