Hello. i put password on my irc, to protect it from my friends.. well. I just rebooted my comp and then i remembered that it's gonna need a password to open up.. I had forgotten the password. So, is there a way i can see the password, from registry or something? or do i need to reinstall mirc(with nonamescript), or do i have to do something else? Thank you.

You should first try remembering the password as best you can, fiddling around in the registry is a last resort. Think of all the usual passwords you might use. Remember that passwords are CaSe sensitive, so 'Munky' is not the same as 'MUNKy' or 'MuNkY'.

If all else fails, you'll have to go through the registry. There are instructions to follow on this page. Make sure you have the correct key. Deleting a wrong key can potentially cause your computer to stop working. To access RegEdit, it's easier to go to Start > Run and type it 'regedit', and click 'Ok'.

G'luck smile (Write it down somewhere safe in future! *grin*)

it is possible to reset the password through a new installation. if you have no luck in the registry. try reinstalling the script into a different folder. and move all the original script files to the new one. maybe that would work. worked for me :P

That shouldn't work. Because it's in the registry, installing another mIRC ot a different directory (even if you don't choose to keep all the old settings) the password should apply.

Atleast it does for me wink

Not that I know of...I have 3 different mIRCs installed into 3 different directories, all installed with the don't keep old settings etc etc. I've only had to set a password on my first installation, and all installations after that had the same pass. I've also installed mIRCs since then and the same effect has occured.

interesting. question. now if you have several accounts on windows. and you install mirc on one and set a password. then switch users and do the same but without a password. will the one on the switched account have a password set?

also with this multiple copies of mirc on one registry key. maybe that should be a feature suggestion for people who have one account for multiple people. say i want to password protect MY copy and still be able to let my brother use his own. that way i dont have to come and enter the password everytime he wants to chat.

At a guess, the password wouldn't remain the same for different accounts. This comp has several accounts and mIRC only appears on my account because it's not in the Shared Documents folder. However, whether there are different reg entries I don't know - try it if you use XP smile
