Good evening. I have some question that's not about mIRC, but I guess some of you guys have some expirience with irc servers, so...
I need to know how big must be my link if I want max 600 users on my server... or is there a way to calculate link by the number of users I think the server will have?
thanx!

From my basic knowledge of these matters I believe the more you pay the provider, the more max users they will allow you to have on the server. Probably all comes down to bandwidth available, and bandwidth costs money.

The number of users the server can hold hasn't got much to do with how much bandwidth is used, but you should have an estimate of how many clients the server WILL be holding. I would estimate a server holding 600 concurrent connections regularly would use around 85+GB per month. That is a rough estimate though.

If you're linking to another network they should tell you their minimum number of connections, and their "Routing" team should be able to inform you on the more technical details of setting up a server.

Hope this is some sort of help... smile

Thanx man. But, I have to know if I can set up ircd on my server (around 100 KBites/sec) or how big must be my link for 600 users example...

I don't know if 100kbps would be good enough to hold 600 users, it may be. Again as a rough estimate I'd say 300kbps to comfortably handle that kind of userload.

Actually having the space for the users does not require you to use up any bandwidth, but you'll most likely be charged for it (unless you're supporting it yourself). The actual clients connecting to the server and using it's resources will use bandwidth. If you have space for 600 users, but only have 12 connections, you're not going to need it all and you'll have plenty of space.

If I CAN support 400 users with 200 kbps, then you brought me some great news. cool
thanx again!
