Had you looked around just a little harder, then you would have seen this post.

Judging from your username I can only assume you're from the UK. It might interest you to know a girl in the UK (under 18...under 16 actually I think) was fined £1,200 because of the illegal mp3 files she had on her computer. Fodder for thought before you start using mIRC (which is not a file sharing program, nor is IRC btw) to download illegal copyrighted movies.

this thread may interest you too.

Happy chatting.

Regards,

shocked i find it interesting that this forum labels "potentially" infringing materials as illegal. Personally i avoid p2p downloads and dont have a single movie on data archive, but as a collector of rare media it is in many cases the ONLY way i can find things. I understand the need for a company to be at a distance from such controversy, however i point out that just because the special interest groups snuck the dmca by the consumer rights groups doesnt mean it is illegal. I am very sad that i am now being called a criminal because i wish to enjoy art which corporations still hold rights to, but refuse to distribute for ANY price. I ask for something more neutral that the spewing of lines which these groups continue to shove onto television and radio.. about the "evil" power of the consumer. It is fine if you dont like it, but i consider the issue much like abortion..... and in case you want to know, i havent bought a cd in 3 years, but i havent downloaded any music under copyright here either. grin
p.s.
There are bills in development by which the US government is now seeking ways to remove the current ability of companies to violate the constitutional rights of not only the public, but other fully legal companies (@_@).

As the mIRC msg board, we are here to offer help on using it. We arent here to debate whether any laws are right or wrong or to judge the activities others engage in. For all the reasons stated in the post earlier referred to, it is our choice to not help with such activities. Regarding your example, to help with one movie just because its old, but not help with another because its new would be hypocritical.

Now, lets not get into another legal vs illegal, right vs wrong, government vs "the little people" debate please. This isnt the place for it.
