I searched for "dcc cap" and "transfer cap" before posting, but to no avail. I've also waited for since 5.91 to see if this would be added and to my knowledge it's not.

It would be great to be able to cap DCC SEND/GET's. Either total (ie, 10KB/s download which would be split among N files or 10KB/s per file).

Most programs that transfer files, whether illegal or not is not the issue if you were going to say that, allow capping. It's a great feature.

Also, there's many legal files that can be highly large. An example would be some complex PSD source files (Photoshop7). Some can be 20-85 MB in size, that's just an example.

If this has been posted before, I'm sorry, but I could not find anything in my searches.

First of all, you might want to try words like "limit" instead of "cap".

mirc already has such a feature, but it applies to dcc sends that are initiated from a script. So the help file implies that it doesn't work if you manually /dcc send a file to somebody, but I don't know if this is actually true. Anyway, to read about this, type /help /dcc get and scroll down to "DCC Fileserver". Read the Note there.

I'm well aware the fileserver supposedly has the ability, but I don't use the fileserver, and the normal send/getting still doesn't seem to have the option shocked

Options > DCC > Fserve .. set Total Max. cps to whatever you want (doesn't limit individual sends, but does limit total sends .. even manual ones) can be changed (with visible results) "on the fly" or as sends are in progress. Set to 0 to utilize all available bandwidth.

Im sure that your friend sending you a completly legal psd file that is of decent side would have no problem setting a DCC cap so they can conserve some of your bandwidth. Otherwise, your hinting at getting it from a bot that is 9 times out of 10 illegal anyways >:D

Well I wouldn't know how to set a cap if somebody asked me too (I guess that makes me a moron), And if I can't do it with mIRC, I wouldnt want to go to any special hassle to do it.
So, I think it's a good idea.

I don't really feel like setting up an Fserve to accomplish this though.

Why would I want to cap downloads of Warez? I'm on 2mbit/s cable, getting "9 out of 10 times illegal files" would make me want to get them as fast as possible, not slow them down.

That's not setting up an Fserve, it's simply setting limits on dcc transfers (sends). It just happens to be located in the same place as Fserves.

Doesn't seem to work on normal sends. I set it to 8KB/s and I'm surpassing 13-14KB/s.

remember that's Cps .. set it to 800 and see what it does .. you'll have to play with the numbers

I've tried numerous numbers to no avail. I don't think it's meant outside of fserves.....

Oh well, it'd be nice to have working one like I suggested that could be global or send specific. For example if I sent joe mycatandme.jpg which is only 750KB and will take no time I wouldn't cap it but if I'm wanting to send Jim MYHELPSYSTEM.PDF which is 15MB and I also want to play an online game (ie, I need my up/downstream) I can cap him at 2KB/s so my game is not laggy.

It'd just be a good thing, whether people use it for illegal files I doubt, because generally you don't want those to be slow. cool

maybe it only works from scripts like it says.

easy solution to that

dcc { !dcc $1- }

And if its some stupid no instant script thing

dcc { timer 1 0 !dcc $1- }

(ps i didnt test either of them)
