How about being able to sort the channel name/user list alphabetically, by order of entry, etc? Also with an option to keep ops, voice, and normal users separated.

Nicks are sorted alphabetically. And because of the channel organization, ops and voices are put at the top. I don't really see a purpose for completely sorting the list, especially in larger channels, it becomes very disorganized when you can't see who the ops or voices are.

Uh, you didn't read my post correctly. I said an option to keep the ops and voicers together could exist. But, really, it's not that hard to find an "@" or "+" in front of a name! Besides, most rooms don't have that many users in them anyway. The main point of my request is to see the order of arrival of users. You can't tell me you don't have any interest in that.

For what purpose? Seems pointless to me.

Um, to see who came into a channel first and who came into it last. Duh. This isn't exactly as hard to grasp as theoretical physics! <eyeroll>

The problem with a nicklist sort is that EVERYONE will initially seem to have joined at the same time, i.e. when the sorter joins the channel. It therefore relies on the user's client being around 24/7 to monitor all comings and goings.

Depending on your network (? - it works on IRCnet), using /who #channelname will return a list of users, ordered by when they joined the channel (starting with the most recent joiner) - as seen from the server you are connected to. The results can easily be scripted into a format that you can use.

The pitfall with any form of listing is always going to be net splits, which appear to be quits followed by new joins.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention - /who results also include details such as whether the users are opped or voiced - so could be sorted on receipt prior to display.

Hope this helps
