Hello,

Since I've arrived at University I've been unable to connect to any IRC server. I've emailed them to check if their firewall had blocked the ports but they tell me that mIRC should be alllowed around it.

Anyway, I've tried all the fixes that you mentioned in the Sticky'ed post and none of that has helped.

This is the error I get:
* Connecting to west.gamesnet.net (6667)
-
* Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out)
-
* Connect retry #1 24.207.0.200 (6667)
-
* Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out)
and obviously it just keeps looping.

While I'm temped to believe that the ResNet guys have no idea what their talking about, any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kris

Ok, I tried this and it works fine, meaning I get a response. I also tried to ping irc.gamesnet.net and it also worked. They were both quite fast too: 100ms for Quakenet, 30ms for Gamesnet.

Any other suggestions : confused

Then the only thing i can think of is that port 6667-669 is blocked, you can also ttry to change the settings in:

File/Options/Connect/Local Info .. if set to server set to normal, if set to normal set to server.. the IP and Local Host should be added by mirc..

if ($me != tired) { return } | else { echo -a Get a pot of coffee now $+($me,.) }

Its probably that.

However, is there any way to extend the time mIRC allows to connect? I tried changing the "if not connected in" thing to a very high number, yet it doesn't seem to be taking effect (I have it set at 4 minutes, but it generally retrys after 30 seconds).

On a side note, I found out today that I can connect to Kazaa...wow.

if the ports is blocked, then it dosent mather. you can have 1 year, and you will get the same reply.. so the only way is to get the ports opened or maybe use a bouncer or proxy that allow you to connect to a diffrent port
