I've tried searching all forums for the last 3 months of posts for that $mask exploit mentioned on http://www.mirc.co.uk/whatsnew.txt. I can't find it. What is the exploit anyways? Cause I'm still using 6.03, and I'm wondering if I'm vulnerable or if it's a 6.1 flaw only.

Um... I think there was something on the old boards about silly opers running around with really long hosts crashing peoples mIRC (I think it was when people tried to /ban them - which may be in some way related to the USERHOST overflow fixed just recently). I can't remember any specifics either, and may be totally off track.

If it was on the old boards though, one would think it would have been fixed in 6.1 or earlier.

Silly IRCops? Couldn't be more right.
When I was one of those I changed a friend's host into a ridiculously long insulting host, and went to /whois them and my mIRC froze up. Let's just say, "Oh the irony".

That's funny. A good way to prevent people from doing a whois on you.

No it wasn't a 6.1 bug, it apparently affected ALL versions. So yes, using 6.03 you are vulnrable, although you wouldd have to connect to a server that is specifically set up to exploit this.
