hmm i just came back to mIRC today after having not used any chat program for years,

my how its changed, hmm...

i know only some basic commands such as nick register and identify and such, jsut enough to get by and i have no clue how to learn any more, therefore i do not know what all the program can do for me.. no idea.. if anyone knows a good way to learn me then please feel free to contact me, fastr68 on yahoo messenger is the easiest way to get a hold of me

anyways, i am curious about the registration that is apparently required now a days, what is up with that ? shocked what happened ? confused
we never had to register a couple or few years back, and before,. what do we get in return for registering and paying the 20 bucks ? other than licensed use past 30 days*

thanks for anything
R

Actually mIRC has always been a 30 day trial, and you can still use it beyond 30 days days without registering.

The happiness that comes with the knowledge that you're not breaking the law and ripping Khaled off.

Quote from mIRC news: mIRC [V4.52] reincarnated as shareware! After working on mIRC for over 18 months Khaled decided to release this new version of mIRC as shareware.

I suppose it may as well be because 4.52 is the oldest version of mIRC referred to on the site for some odd reason. I think from a historical perspective all versions prior should also have their release dates put there, along with the descriptions given at the time.

They are listed on www.mirc.org, or more accurately here. So it spent about a year as freeware.

Also, registering your nick on irc is not the same as registering your copy of mIRC. Look to the left of this page for the Intro to IRC and Intro to mIRC links. smile

Never compare yourself to others - they're more screwed up than you think.

Other ways to learn:
-wander thru the help file (in any mIRC window type /help
-in any mIRC window type /help basic commands
-download and read the mIRC FAQ
-for services related commands, see the networks website, should be lots of info and ways to get access to details with typing a command in mIRC like /nickserv help

As for registration, if you are going to use shareware, its only right that you pay for it, dont you think? Just because Khaled has always worked on the honor system, doesnt mean anyone should take advantage of that trust.
