use /dcc send but without the [censored] mIRC showing your IP. Kazaa doesn't show your IP and they use P2P NetWorking :\

It doesn't show your IP there, but the person can still get it. They go to a dos/command window and type netstat -a
Look at that! They now have your IP.

even if he could stop the ip being shown, the person could just type netstat -a in dos/cmd, same for kazza.
bah, codemastr beat me to it grin

don't have auto-get files on, and you shouldn't have a problem. Just take/give files and DCC chat to people you trust.

Im with you on this one there is no need to display the ip address. Yes there are ways to get it, the typical nuker aka skript kiddie probablty would know this. But a little bit of extra security is better than none right?

IRC was never intended to be an anonymous medium. Why should it be?

Nukes died with Win95.

Regardless of intentions, I make sure that I am anonymous to people I don't know. Anyone who has a problem with that is using the 'Net for the wrong reasons. That said, I agree with whoever told the original poster (either here or in his duplicate thread) that he should not engage in DCC with people that he doesn't know because there is simply no possible way for him to hide his address.

Win95 isn't dead I know several people who still use it (god knows why). Why does mirc have to display your ip in clear veiw thats like having your bank account pin number stamped on your back for everyone to see.

I agree whole heartedly. Common sense really.

Yes it is. Microsoft doesn't cater for Win95 anymore. Not in terms of new software or for security patches. Win95 was officially retired last year (or the year before, I forget) so in my view, that means it's dead. Defunct. Past its sell-by date. Expired.

I fail to see what the problem is. Provided you DCC to those you trust, keep up-to-date with your OS's security patches and maintain a decent firewall, your risk of being exploited somehow is minimal. Or at least about the same level as it is with you just merely being online at all (regardless of being connected to IRC or whatever).

Please dont start threads saying the same thing in multiple forums. It tends to cause confusion. Cross posting isnt necessary as most ppl read all the forums.
