I think this command doesn't work:

/background -d file_path\image

I'm using mIRC 6.03 and I have no problem with the other commands for the
other windows... But in query window I can change the background only
clicking on System Menu and then choosing Background > Select...

If I try using /background command nothing changes! All my friends have the
same problem also with mIRC 6.01.
Are you absolutely sure this command works in query window?

Please check it!

Thanks for helping me :-)

The -d switch is for the single message window, not for query windows.

Ok, but tell me what a single message window is! I mean, is it the window created with /msg command? Well neither that changes its background...

Please help me...

You can enable it in mIRC Options -> IRC.

From the mIRC helpfile:
Use single message window

This directs all private messages or notices from other users to one single message window. You will need to use the /msg command to reply. If you want to open a query window to a user, use the /query window.

Note: You can press the Tab key while in the message window to cycle through the list of nicknames who have recently messaged you

Thanks, now it's all ok and I have understood my poblem was very stupid... But I have a final question:

If I use the /background -d file_path\image command in single message window in the mirc.ini file appears this line in the [background] secton:

wmessage=file_path\image

This is normal, I know. But if I use the /background -d command in a window different from single message window that line (and so my setting) diasappears...

Why is it impossible to change single message window's background form another window? For status window for example it's possible and it's vey usefull...

Well, there is an error in my eplanation: you can change the single message window's background from another window, but single message window has to be open when you use that command...
