This may be a hard idea but, a mirc compiler.. that makes small dos programs so we dont have to learn c++

I think DOS would find it hard to understand mIRC's scripting syntax. In this case what language do you propose to replace it with?

I think he's refering to compiling mIRC Script into some standard PE executable, but being mIRC Script it would have to be in a command (DOS) environment.

It would be 'possible' to do, but would be much like taking a stripped down mirc.exe and embedding a script into it. You're looking at a 1.5 meg exe for the smallest of script.

In any event, it aint gonna happen... not noway, not nohow.
Tell the users of your 'program' that they need to download and install mIRC from mirc.com first.

Yeah I can see how being able to do that would be very useful in a Windows application...

Your commical sense of sarcasm never fails, but you seem to have forgotten about the plethora of non-irc related scripting functions and methods, including dialogs that require no mIRC interface.

I'm not supporting this idea, it's rather lame in fact, considering the only reason he wants to do this is to distribute scripts as stand-alone programs.

Frankly, I'd avoid "software" that was written in a scripting language like the plague, or monkeypox.

Yes there are some features, but imagine this. You create a program that rivals MS word. However, unfortunately, due to mIRC limitations, files you write can never contain multiple consecutive spaces. The length of each line of text is also physically limited to 920 characters. So even if mIRC has features that are suited to a stand alone application, the limitations mIRC imposes, which are for the most part, fine for IRC, are not fine for stand alone applications.

I think that is something that many of us are guilty of to an extent. That is either good or bad, depending on what is actually discussed.

that would be nice, to encrypt your script, so other lame people cant edit your script, f.ex e litle password file
(f.ex we use .mrc now -- if we f.ex have a file with .ems (encrypted mIRC script) that would need a password to open up and see the real code -- this would stop many lamers from stealing mIRC scripts)

to encrypt a script mirc itself has to be able to decrypt it ... therefore if mirc can decrypt it ANYONE can ..... there is no way to protect your scripts for being ripped or altered or even used by others if u pass them out... therefore .. if your not wanting your scripts used or altered by anyone else ... DONT SHARE. thats the ultimate for of script protection
