Hi, I have been using IRC in the office for the past three years without problems, but now I have been given a new PC and cannot connect. i get the message "Unable to resolve server"

There is a hardware firewall but my old PC could still get through without any problems, this new PC which uses the exact same settings as my old one however cannot.

I have checked on my old PC and its still connects perfectly (and is on the same LAN)

(running win 98 sec)

Can anyone help?

unable to resolve server usually means that either the server is down, or you mistyped it or it just simply doesnt exist.

Server isn't down because i connected to it 5 minutes ago on my old comp, definately not a typo, and the server definately exists. AOL instant messenger doesnt work either, but MSN does... Strange

have you tried connecting to the ip vs domain or vice versa?
double checked the LAN settings to new puter?

Thanks Parabrat,

I checked LAN settings and it says i connect through a proxy server via http. I added the IP and user info to AOL messenger and now that works fine. When i went to do the same on IRC I cannot select http as there is only sock4 sock5 and proxy, none of them work so im still stuck, but getting closer laugh
