Hi all

How can I find out the firewall details my work's network computer is using, so that I can add the details into the Firewall section? Is there a way I can look those things up on the PC?

Talk to your network administrator. Only they can answer your question.

If they have put a firewall in place, chances are your boss doesn't want to pay you for chatting on IRC.

THen perhaps you should have made it clear that YOU don't support it either rather than just saying "the forum".
You could have also done me the decency of not posting my email details for everyone to see.

Or you could have just pm'ed me back and said exactly what you typed here and I would have left it alone. It's not like I'm some high tech criminal..I just want to chat on your fantastic MIRC. ok? So don't get all anti with me.

Then just do what d00dman suggested if they tell you no then just leave it at that. People shouldn't be chatting at work anyways. If I were a boss or company owner I sure as hell wouldn't want to be paying my employees to chat. They are there to do a job, and for 8-12 hours or what ever that is my time. Chatting is done on your time meaning "At home"

All i'm saying is respect the wishes of your employers. And don't try to find ways around it. or you will end up being "let go".

OK...so you guys are just trying to tell most of the working population with internet at work, not to do something they all want to and probably all actually do.

Stop trying to be all saint like, we all know that most people will use free internet and chat if they can including my employers...I've seen them.

If it goes against the wishes of the employer, yes

Who's being saint like, so what if its free internet. Most businesses have internet to help you accomplish your daily tasks. If your employers do it does that mean you have to?

As for the first reply to your message, note I said: "If they say no" read things more carefully.

What we are telling you is that we do not have a habit of telling people how to breach the security protocols of computers not owned by us and not owned by the user who started the thread. Full stop, end of story. If you want to be a h4x0r or use your employer's time to gasbag or download things then you are in the wrong place. Your employer will have blocked IRC ports two very good reasons:

1. To help stop the ingress of damaging data (virii, trojans, backdoors or whatever you want to call them) - Having had one of my servers nailed by Nimbda (not an IRC borne virus but a virus all the same) I know the importance of vigilance when it comes to computer security.

2. Your boss will surprisingly want you to do some work.

This web board is jam-packed with honest, ethical people who for the most part, despite the odd disagreement, give good advice. You should try following some of it.

We are not telling you or anyone else what to do/not do. We are telling you that we will not help you with this for our own ethical reasons/policies of this forum. It isnt a matter of being "saintlike", its a matter of what we prefer the reputation of this forum, and by extension mIRC and its author, to be.

FYI, i edited your email addy out. In spite of your attempt to circumvent our policies, it doesnt need to be posted here.

It would be unrealistic to expect such a widely varied group to agree on everything posted here. Luckily most ppl manage to give their opinions with courtesy smile

Oh good. Now we can have another thread that goes way off topic due to an unnecessary attack on another forum user who was not even active in this thread
