I recently ran SpyBot on my computer, and it deleted everything to do with mIRC. I went to the 'Recovery' section of SpyBot and added all the files that were there, back to their previous state, however, it still didn't show up.

I re-downloaded mIRC in a depressed frame of mind, knowing that all my script files were gone which I had obtained over a number of months, and to my great dismay found that I couldn't even connect to IRC anymore.

It gives me the following error message:

* Unable to connect (Connection refused)

This is with ANY IRC server/network. I can only assume SpyBot has deleted something which I need in order to connect. Maybe something in the windows registry?

My mIRC folder was situated in the same folder as the 'Bonzi Buddy Web Compass' folder (don't ask me why, it's another long story) and I assume SpyBot detected that and deleted everything in it....

The only thing i can say is that, as far as i know, mIRC checks and restores every registry entries that have to do with mIRC when it's opened, so that's surely not it. Another thing you could do is make a search for those script files and see if they're still around somewhere. Or you could just ask one of your IRC friend who happens to be pretty skilled in mIRC scripting to do it for you :P

I searched all of C: and none of the script.ini files have turned up. I'll just have to add them back again *sigh*

Since my last post I have tried various methods, including:

i) Deleting everything to do with mIRC, rebooting, redownloading and reinstalling, rebooting and then trying to connect. Does not work.

ii) Uninstalled SpyBot completely, rebooted, tried to connect again and did not work.

iii) Tried another client (Visual IRC) and got the same error message (Unable to connect (Connection refused))

I have quite a few friends trying to help me out with this, whom are staff at #Help/#NoHack on DALnet. I have also posted on the SpyBot Forums

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks!

I finally found out how to solve my little problem! laugh

I ran System Restore and took the computer back 24 hours, and now mIRC is restored with a lot of my script files back. Some little fun extra things have gone from my system it would appear (i.e. lag bar), but if I spend enough time searching through mircscripts.org I'll find them and reload them - a process I'm half way through already!

The only problem I have now, is if I move the mIRC folder out of the Bonzi Buddy web folder then I get that previous error message (Connection refused)...I don't get why it does that, but it does *Shrugs*
It doesn't matter too much though, it just means //run $mircdir doesn't work:

* /run: unable to open 'C:\Program Files\BONZI.COM'

Oh well, atleast I can connect! smile

Thanks all.

Regards,
