Forums Bug Reports mIRC won't start on Win10 Insiders Preview

Hi,

I was using mIRC quite happily until a couple of weeks ago when I updated to one of the earlier builds of the creators update.
I'm now at version 1703, build 16176.1000, and still no joy.

When launching mIRC, the icon briefly flashes on the taskbar, and very occasionally I see some semblance of the main window, and then it vanishes.
This happens with a completely clean installation of mIRC as well as with my previous settings intact.
I can provide a procmon.exe capture of the process if that will help at all.


There are no pending updates on the system. Behaviour is consistent across mIRC versions 7.45, 7.47, 7.48.

I realise that running the insiders preview means I'm on unsupported software, but as it is usually the next step for the stable version, it should generally be indicative of what is to come.


Any pointers?

Yes, I have this problem too. 16176_170410-1642 version win10 Insider preview, but also from 1-3 earlier versions I see this problem.

On older version, i try to use hint Msconfig->Hint->repair? (on my windows this writed on russian): C:\WINDOWS\System32\control.exe /name Microsoft.Troubleshooting

and then select "repair windows update system" (???), after this and restart i have mirc working normally. But now, this can't fix it problem. I try to start this mirc from this directory when pc started from win'xp live cd, and mirc started normally.

Yes, not4me too. Now I'm using hexchat and waiting for fix w10/mirc :)).

Also, in chrome browser I see problem - on any page when I'm press Ctrl+S, dialog 'Save as' also not working - blink as mirc and nothing else. Time for this bugs (mirc/chrom) is once, may be this mean one problem in insider w10 versions.

I'm also Insider and i'm using 16176.1000. mIRC 7.48 works fine, no errors occur.

I am afraid I have no experience with Win10 Insiders preview. I rarely test mIRC on pre-release versions of Windows because all that happens is that I end up trying to accomodate bugs in Windows. As this is a pre-release version of Windows, you really need to contact Microsoft to let them know that their software is breaking compatibility with existing applications.

win 10 x64 ? I have this.
Today update my win to 16176.1000, without correct result, mirc don't work, non-portable or portable or with any other command line keys. I sended report to MS...

Yes, Windows 10 x64 (Pro). Both 7.47 and 7.48 works fine (both clean and with scripts)

Mine is Enterprise.. Now at v1703, build 16179.1000, still no joy.
Also x64.

I was mainly hoping to get more info that I could use to inform some choices that I'll make myself.

upgraded to Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16179 and now mirc doesn't open
window flashes and nothing.
can't even find an error log

So I'm going to wait and see what happens once the creators update goes properly live via WU to all non-insiders..

It feels like a permissions issue to me of some kind, but I can't see anything obvious in the procmon output to suggest what is actually going on.
If I have time next week, I'm going to compare it to the working Win10Pro VM that I have that is still on 1607 (build 14393.1066)

Here I am using Windows 10 PRO, version 1703, build 15063.138 and mIRC is opening normally with version 7.48.

I recommend you do a clean boot of Windows, to determine if any program is causing conflict and generating this error.

A friend who was having problems with certain programs after updating Windows, and the cause of the problem was an incompatibility of the version he was using from Riva Tunner Statistics Server.

You are using a non-Insider build, 15063 is the creator's build (final). We are discussing on those Insider Builds (> 16170)

I think it's safe to say that those of us running Insiders have tried rebooting...

I for one have a minimal level of additional services and applications running, and none that have changed between it working and not working.

Hi guys, i fixed this problem and Chrome -> save as fixed too.
In my case, problem was detected in some adware, installed in system as extension of Chrome and may be other. In some times, I see in Chrome pages Tdsrmbl.net/*...., but I don't open this. After googling, I found info about this: http://www.averina.com/how-to-remove-tdsrmbl-net-adware/

I used adwcleaner from this page (and some page's in search writing about this tools) and after reset see running mirc :-)

May be, your problem also in adaware?

now mirc works anew

Mine is also working again, following a spybot install, scan, uninstall and reboot. I don't recall it finding anything, but anyway.
