Just in case you're unaware, it is easy to do a clean installation without interfering with your existing one. You simply make a temporary folder (anywhere), copy mirc.exe from your existing installation's folder into the new temporary folder, and then run the new copy of mirc.exe with the -portable switch. That new copy of mirc.exe will then setup a fresh installation contained entirely within that temporary folder, and won't interfere with your existing install, or modify anything anywhere else on your system. Deleting the temporary folder, likewise, is all you have to do afterwards (there's no uninstall process).
Edit: I tried all you suggested using a clean installation, and everything worked just as it should have. (FYI, you can't put only a nickname into the trusted list. Each entry must be a full address in the nick!userid@host format or else mIRC assumes you're entering an access level ('/help levels'). So to match against nicks only, use nickname!*@* instead.)
