It would be nice to be able to reconfigure server and channel tabs much like you can do with tabs in Windows or browsers. I think most of us get in the habit of tabs being in a certain place so when another server connects first on startup or if you get kicked from a channel, it throws that off.

This exists, it's just not in an intuitive interface, see Window -> Order...
The ability to drag/drop the order of switchbar/treebar items has been suggested before, FYI.

In addition to Window > Order (which only seems to allow you to order classes of windows, but that might still be good to keep private message windows away from the rest), if you want to keep things always in the same place, you could...
1. Use a script to connect to networks in order. 2. Use a script to join channels in order 3. enable Tools > Options... > IRC > Keep channels open
and optionally... 4. Tools > Options... > Display > Sort buttons
It wouldn't be the exact order you may desire, but it should give a consistent ordering of buttons.

Window -> Order most definitely allows specifying the order of individual channels/nickname windows, not just classes. Just enter the channel names in the correct order. Again, this is unintuitive, but it works.

oh, I completely missed that you could enter a name. But yes, that does still seem unintuitive.. or at least 'slow'.
Pre-filling that would save a bit of hassle, but then.. modifying the mirc.ini file from a script is discouraged (and mIRC doesn't pick up on the modifications anyway).
oh well.. learned something new, at least

There have been requests for better control of windows in mIRC and I think most people would like to see that happen at some point. Personally, I connect to networks and channels automatically through a script, so I always have everything in the same order and because I don't close channels when parting, a reconnect doesn't change the order on me. But just because it works that way, or by using the method argv0 mentioned, doesn't mean that a better method should be available.
