I've been researching like mad to fix this issue, but I can't seem to find exactly what's ailing my IRC. I can fully connect to the IRC server I want to, it just takes a while. The connection seems to pause after

It refuses to connect on its own. I figured out after a while that if I try to communicate with the server (ie: /join or /privmsg) it will fully connect after about a minute or two, complete with auto-joining channels. Something to note is that once the server fully connects, the command I tried using will come out incomplete (if I type /join the server will say "OIN Unknown command" when it loads - /privmsg "RIVMSG Unknown command).

I moved from Massachusetts to Arizona recently and did not have this problem back home. ISP problem? Router problem?

Perhaps related: when I first wake my computer up it takes FOREVER for the internet to work for me. I generally turn it on (very fast load times), open up Firefox, and open all my favorite web pages. Even thought my computer is connected to the internet, I get "Problem Loading Page" warnings all over the place for the first 5 minutes. It's not like we have slow interent here, either. After the "warm up" for the internet the first time I connect the pages laod as they should.

It's not exactly fatal, just annoying, and I'm sure I explained it poorly, but if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to fix those things? Router settings or anything?

And it is not a script problem as I don't use scripts (save for messaging nickserv on connect).

It probably is a router or ISP configuration problem, but without you doing a lot of testing to try and find the cause, it would not be easy for us to guess what is causing the problem. Normally, you shouldn't have to make any router changes to connect to IRC. However, if you've made changes, one of them could be causing you problems. You could reset the router to default settings (that will lose all of your forwarded ports and other changes, so only do that if you're okay with having to reconfigure those items). If you reset it, then try connecting before making any changes to the router after the reset.

As for your ISP, you'd have to try contacting them to see if they are blocking anything related to IRC. That said, ISPs rarely tell you if they're blocking stuff and you usually won't even end up talking to anyone who even knows what IRC is unless you can talk them into escalating your call to a higher level tech.

One other option is to enable /debug in mIRC...

/debug @debug

Then, try connecting. Go ahead and do your command to allow the connection to finish. Then, check your @debug window and see what is shown there. If you want, you can paste that here and maybe it will let someone see what's happening.

I'd also recommend unloading all scripts (even if they just message nickserv). That way you know for certain it's not some bug in a script. That's a very easy thing to check and you can always reload them later. It's usually better to test something that's quick and easy right away rather than find out a lot later that the quick/easy thing was the reason and that you spent hours doing other things when you didn't have to.

Hopefully someone can interpret this? I tried looking through and couldn't make sense of it. I did notice though: it registered me typing "/join #VEDJ" and in my server window it came out "OIN Unknown Command".

Also to note: the first time I tried this I didn't have logs on and I just let it sit there thinking it would load after a while. After three minutes of not loading, I typed in my command and this popped up:

Any thoughts? Strange, huh?

I know there was some comment on CAP being an issue for people, but I thought that was changed for 7.1 from beta, so I don't know if that's still a problem.

Have you tried with your join/identify script(s) unloaded? Considering how much happened in under a minute, I'm guessing that you still had them loaded.

What version of mIRC are you using?

Can you connect to other networks, or does this happen on all of them? Try one like Undernet or Efnet. I did try that server and it connects fine here, so it is probably not something on the server's end. Maybe someone else has more ideas.

As for the version: I was running an older version up until yesterday when I was trying out other clients and decided it was time for an upgrade to the most recent. Should be noted: other clients aren't experiencing this problem (neither are mibbit.com or java applications), jut mIRC. Which is a shame, because I really like mIRC a lot more than others.

I have gotten this since switching isp's. AFAIK it's the fault of my isp (which is a relatively new cable company) not supplying the information requested by the server. It hurts nothing, as everything else works with no problems.

Yeah, like I said it's not fatal at all, just irritating.
