I am trying to figure out how to make this work on windows 7.

It is a bit confusing. There seems to be a /speak function, though it is not clear from the help file whether or not this is related to agent support.

Regardless it doesn't do anything and neither does /gtalk etc.

The agents page: http://www.mirc.com/agents.html
Is a bunch of dead links, presumably written in the 70's and the software probably wouldn't work even if the URL's were accessible.

Is it all over for text to speech?

Edit: To make this clear, I want to be able to programatically do text to speech, I am not really interested in having chat automatically spoken out. It's just something I want to do in scripts.

The Microsoft Agent links were actually correct up to last year :-) Unfortunately when Microsoft released Windows 7 they decided to stop supporting Microsoft Agent and removed all related pages from their website, which is a shame since it was a useful resource. mIRC was probably one of the largest projects that used Microsoft Agent. The /speak command is very old and requires components that are unlikely to work any longer. The next version of mIRC will however support the latest speech features in Windows 7 and will add a text to speech command that you can use in scripts.

Kahled (and others),

I read your response, however.. this may be of interest to you...

This can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/products/msagent/main.aspx

"Due to customer feedback, Microsoft has decided to provide an installation package of the Microsoft Agent core components for use on Windows 7. This package includes the required components to enable applications to work with MS Agent. In addition it contains the character “Merlin” which was also shipped in Windows Vista."

For more information please visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969168.

I have gone to this location, and the downloads, and a fix for windows 7 are located there. Also, the 4 main charaters are available for download at that URL.

I have not (do not have windows 7) tested this 'fix' but others with Windows 7 may want to...

as ever,

HorseC (a very dedicated mIRC user) wink

Thanks for the update, I have updated the Microsoft Agent page on the mIRC website to reflect the changes :-)
