Once in a while, I forget that certain words turn to code, such as the word "no." When this happens, I am aware that hitting the control/enter feature will stop the code. But here is my problem: when a code happens it can take days before I can enter a file phrase that will actually take and be recognized. What is going on and how do I cope with this.

I don't understand you. The most likely reason for this is that you're using technical jargon incorrectly, and probably superfluously.

My guess may be that you are referring to "code" as a script that is replacing your word with something colourized. Have you tried consulting the author of the script? That would be the most appropriate forum.

If you have tried to consult the author of the script, and he/she has not yet responded, what do you mean by "file phrase"? The simplest solution: don't use that script. Download a clean, generic installation of mIRC.

If you have not attempted to consult the author of the script, and you're back here with the intent to respond without doing so, may your brain be shrivelled and seared by a firey cattle brand in retribution for causing my IQ to drop significantly.

Like s00p, I think you're probably talking about an "acromancer" script -- a script that will automatically convert certain combinations of characters into something else... for example, letting you type wtg and it converts to way to go. Such scripts can also add colors and formatting or completely change what you type. If you don't want that, either get rid of the script or disable that part of it (if it can be disabled). mIRC itself will not convert what you say without having a script that does it, so a clean install of mIRC from this site will solve this for you if you don't know how to remove the script.

1) In mIRC to launch editor ==> [ALT]+R
2) [CTRL]+F
3) Search :input: Replace ALL with :xinput:
4) At bottom of editor [OK]

I think this isn't a good thing to do and to recommend, maybe he is not using such a script and even if it's true, it can still cause troubles

Agreed. Much better to unload the script or seek help with do a real modification to just the part in question. Removing every on input in that manner will prevent other things from working that the OP likely doesn't want to prevent. Besides, any decent script that isn't JUST an acromancer should have an option to disable it. Much better than changing ever on input event to prevent them from working.

By telling someone how to possibly wreck a dozen scripts - without any attempt to explain purpose or consequences of your "instruction" - you're more likely creating a rightly frustrated user.

Anyone that can't figure out how to
reverse that probably gonna have lots
of other problems not confined to mIRC..

The point Horstl is making is that you're breaking all scripts that use the input event. Even if he reversed what you did, he'd be back where he started. It creates potential problems and doesn't tell him anything that helps him become a scripter. For all he knows, xinput could be a legitimate event.

I disagree..
tells him how to open the editor
how to find/replace..
and how to save the changes with the [ok] button..
(not to mention I gave him an easy way
to break an event without having to use
a block comment to comment it out)
if he can read english he is about half
way to being able to script mIRC..

So that's your definition of scripting? You helped him use a text editor. Not how to script. And *breaking* something is usually not the best way to solve a situation.

Sometimes it is.. like when you're scripting some long involved event and it's not yet working right and you want to put it aside for awhile.. you could block comment it out.. or you could prepend the event name with something easy to search for such that you can easily find it and all the others that you may have 'broken' at a later date..
