Hello, I noticed UTF8-encoded text seems to be much smaller than before.

Took screenshots from 6.2 and 6.34 clients comparing the text size.

Font Settings: Tahoma, size 8 on both clients

mIRC 6.2 (up) vs the latest mIRC 6.34

Maybe the following change caused the bug? From 6.33 changelog:
11. Fixed text display bug due to incorrect text width measurement with some fonts/characters, now using new method to measure text width.

I'm forced to use the old version of mIRC until this is fixed.

Oops I was tired last night, of course, it's mIRC 6.34 (up) and mIRC 6.2 below.

Notice how the basic ASCII-text is unaffected by this bug.

Suddenly the bug disappeared in 6.34, no idea what on earth happened.

Unless it occurs again, consider this as a false report.

If someone has similar experiences, please post here.

Well something clearly triggers the bug in 6.34, I just don't know yet what exactly.

Has it reoccurred since your previous post?

Have you recently installed any software that may have included additional fonts?

Yes, once.

Nope, and I always use Tahoma (font size 8) on mIRC.

The bug is active again, it also occurs in mIRC 6.33 but not in 6.32 or lower.

This was due to the fonts being sized incorrectly in older versions, which made them appear larger. With a number of character sets this resulted in the characters being chopped at the top or bottom. The newer versions of mIRC resolve this issue, however it means that you need to use slightly larger font settings to view the same size text :-)

Hello Khaled and thank you for your hard work on mIRC! To show my support I recently bought my own copy of mIRC smile

The font change you made in 6.33 isn't working for UTF-8 as it shrinks the non-ascii characters vertically (but not horizontally!) which makes the characters out of proportion and very hard to read even if you increase the font size.

Something causes the mIRC (6.34 & 6.33) to switch between the old and new font behaviour (of non-ascii text) so please note this shrinking problem is not active all the time.

If you cant figure out what causes this, please at least implement the old font behaviour as an option in the mIRC settings for the future mIRC versions, thank you.

Any plans to add an option for the old font behaviour? Thanks!

Is Khaled's proposed solution of increasing your font size not working?
