Hello,

I am using a Vista limited account and I am unable to use mIRC. Every time I try to connect, I get:

[11:10:20AM] * Connecting to <network> (6667)
-
[11:10:20AM] * Unable to connect to server (Unknown Error)

It does this for every network I try. Right now I am forced to use PJIRC (which I hate). I still get this error after having mIRC reinstalled. I was wondering if there was a problem with Vista and the account being limited (connects fine on the admin account), and if there is any way to fix this.

Thanks

Permission errors, I'd guess. Where did you install mIRC to when running it from the non admin account? Is your mirc.ini located in program files\?

Type //echo -a $mircdir in mIRC and paste the results here.

I get:

C:\Users\<myname>\AppData\Roaming\mIRC\

Although I can run mIRC from C:\Program Files\mIRC

ETA: On mIRC v6.31 and v6.3, I get Connection Refused rather than Unknown Error.

What's the server you're trying to connect to?

irc.gamesurge.net, but I've tried others and get the same result.

Do you have windows firewall blocking anything in the limited account?

The firewall has it allowed.

Nope.

I'm pretty sure I found the reason. mIRC only connects when parental controls are disabled.

Unless there's a way to fix this I guess I'm out of luck. smirk

An administrator should be able to allow mirc for you ... if that's not the reason in the first place (they deliberately blocked you)

mIRC is allowed on the controls. It only works when Parental Controls are completely disabled.

You're right. I can reproduce this with parental controls on. I guess the bug report related to this issue should be followed up on.
