I just bought a new computer with Vista and installed mIRC 6.32. I am getting disconnected seemingly at random, and repeatedly. It shows it as a ping timeout.

Any suggestions?

See if this temporary solution works for you.

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems to work for half an hour or so, then I'm back to disconnecting/reconnecting again.

What router are you using? I just bought a Linksys WRV200 recently and was getting software aborts constantly until I upgraded the factory default firmware. I suggest doing the same even if you don't have the same router.

Thanks. I actually haven't been able to upgrade the firmware (the utility won't take the default password for some reason), but I completely unplugged the modem and router from the PC and the power and plugged back in and that alone seems to have solved the problem for now. It's been a couple hours since I last got disconnected.

That may be a sign that your router is getting old/dying based on my own past experiences (that is if it's not the firmware's fault). Having to restart your router is a sign that it will happen again.

You can hard-reset your router to reset the password. Consult the manual, but usually there's a little hole you insert a paperclip into for 3-5seconds in the back next to the power cable. It's highly recommended to make sure your router firmware is up to date. It'll save you headaches in the future.
