Good evening,

This is my first post.

Im a member of a channel and can download from particular user at 185kbs average speed.. however when people download from me they can only receive files at 8kbs average speed...

my question is how can i configure mIRC so i can make good use of my internet connection. i have run a speed test to many different servers around the world and my router can upload at an average of 280kbs.. so why cant mIRC use this bandwidth.

First, you can only upload as fast as they can download. Second, setting the max cps to 0 (zero) makes it unlimited. Also, if you're sending to more than one person, it will split your upload speed in half.

2) Some of your upload speed is also being used just to run mIRC, as mIRC has to upload and download information from the IRC server(s) for normal chatting, and the status window.
3) Your upload speed will also be affected by any other programs that are using your bandwidth.
4) The rate that you download is restricted by the senders upload available bandwidth as well as their available download bandwidth.

There may be other factors in play also.

In addition, you cannot trust those speed test sites. They can vary greatly in results and none are entirely accurate. I've seen my 10mbit downloads show up on them from 2mbit up to 20mbit. Uploads vary just as much on those speed tests.

Second, keep in mind that your speed on those may not be kB/s, but kbps. 280kbps means you have a maximum upload of 28-35kB/s. Then, as mentioned, it will depend on what other internet things you have going, speeds others can download, etc. That and DCC isn't really a great protocol for file transfers... you will generally get faster speeds up and down from just about any other protocol.
