mIRC keeps disconnecting every 10 or so minutes.

The details:
1.I have upgraded computers and part of that upgrade is a new modem/router and vista home premium.
2.My old winxp computer is linked to the same router.
3.On my old computer using mirc v6.17 I have no problems, But with mirc v6.31 it disconnects as mentioned
4.on my new vista computer I have tried mirc v6.31 & v6.16 (don’t have a installer for v6.17) and it just keep disconnecting
5.I am using Hydrairc on the new computer. And that works fine.

Can anyone help me?

What error message do you get on disconnection?

If it's 10053 you can read the sticky'd post in the connection issues forum on the subject.

Did you happen to change any system files in vista, by the way, like TCPIP.sys?

Type the following into any window in mIRC and paste the results here:

//echo -a $remote $dll(0) $com(0) $script(0) $md5($mircexe,2) $nopath($script(1)) $readini($mircini,socks,enabled)

can you still reproduce this behaviour? perhaps it was just a temporary routing issue?

You can obtain a copy of the 6.17 installer from here. Maybe you would want to try that to see if it works, though if 6.16 does not then 6.17 probably should not either.. worth a try though.

However, if the problem is still happening, and 6.16 disconnects on vista, 6.17 disconnects on vista, etc., but did not on XP, then the only possibility here would be that Vista & mIRC are not liking each other. My specific vista install has no problems with mIRC at all and there is no known issue of such an incompatibility, of course that doesn't rule out the possibility that mIRC is the problem.

no it happends every time.
i just downloaded 6.17 and logged in on 6.17 6.31 & hydrairc all at the same time. both mircs have disconnected.

from the hydrairc window it says (Ping timeout: 121 seconds) for both of them, if that means anything.

now i am doing a test with hydrairc, 6.17 on vista and 6.17 on xp....

drum roll...

6.17 on vista is the first to disconnect as predicted.

Thanks for your help anyway. i might be doomed to live with with hydrairc

I almost wonder if you aren't pinging the server for some reason. Without the PING/PONG event, you probably would get disconnected.

Assuming you're idle, look in your status window, you should see continual "Ping? Pong!" notifications:

[21:58] Ping? Pong!
-
[22:01] Ping? Pong!
-
[22:03] Ping? Pong!

If you don't, something is wrong. Check Alt+O -> IRC -> Options and make sure "Hide Ping? Pong! Event" is unchecked (at the bottom) and check for the events again. if they still don't show up, this would explain the disconnections.

Try the solution in this post and see if it still disconnects.

~ Edit ~
Well it's more of a temporary fix than a solution. A band-aid.
