like in html where you have text which links to another thing, you can have text which links to other windows\websites\programs\etc

eg. <a href="http://www.mirc.com">Hypertext</a>
could be
$hypertext(http://www.mirc.com,Hypertext,Tooltip)
or
$hypertext(c:\program files\app\app.exe,Hypertext,Tooltip)

In a way, you could probably do this (locally only) using the HOTLINK remote. See /help on HOTLINK

From a security perspective I don't think this is wise.

this has been suggested a zillion times in the past.. where you can dosomething similar to :

<a href= url here>DISPLAY TO CHANNEL < / a >

Ive always liked tghe idea of being able to post hyperlinks in the channel or topic.

Would polish up irc a bit IMO.

<a href="http://windows98.kupotek.com/mstat/">mIRCstats updated!</a>

like a add hyoperlink dialog: Field1(text); Field2(link);

a dialog creation:

would be real easy also

;Popup menu | menu channel | ;(example) | { hyperlink | .Create: dialog -m link link | link includes attributes: | { set %urltxt $? | set %url $? | compile hyperlink %hyperlink | msg $active %hyperlink }

if youcant use html, use UBB code

Perhaps an option to enable this or not, it would be off as default for security purposes.

When the link is sent in the new format it is shown if the option is enabled, otherwise just the URL is shown.

And instead of that <A HREF.... format, maybe a control key, methinks CTRL + A, http://www.mirc.com mIRC! as an example.

--edit--

And if possible, perhaps have them show up in the ^u^k12url^o format, just like default webpages (this of course would be an option to change the format or turn on/off).

It would be just too easy to change "http://www.mirc.com mIRC!" into "http://infected.site.foo mIRC!" :tongue:

There is already enough spam around the place anyway, and as I said it would return as "http://infected.site.foo mIRC!" when the option is disabled, otherwise it would show as "mIRC" where you can click it and it will be a normal hyperlink.

When the option is disabled by default that will allow people who are actually understand about IRC spam to enable it, because I believe people who don't know about dangerous spam are the same people who wouldn't know how to tick a checkbox in the mIRC options.

"I believe people who don't know about dangerous spam are the same people who wouldn't know how to tick a checkbox in the mIRC options."
These would not be the same people who set mIRC to autoget anything they are sent? By default this is disabled AND file types are checked AND warnings appear. Na, they wouldn't know how to do that.
Would they be the people who don't know how to set mIRC to auto-open urls? Na.
Oh and of course the people who want you to see "mIRC!" instead of "http://backdoors.for.yu" wouldn't tell newbies how to enable this "cool new feature" would they? Na, of course not. The next version of §|ôÐôwñ script wouldn't have it enabled would it? Na....
I think that the people who most would prefer to mask the url are likely to be those same "people who don't know about dangerous spam", and the people who send it of course.

i personally would like it better if mirc didnt even allow u the ability to click on hyperlinks in channels anymore ..... security wise it would just be an all around great idea ...... altho it would make things somewhat annoying for responsible users
it would still be a great security standpoint ..... as for being able to alter the urls ..... its the absolute worst idea ive ever seen suggested ...... if someone was not intelligent enough to setup options correctly ...... and someone did somthing like

come to http://BADSITE.net = http://mirc.com to get the newest release of mirc came out just today

how many morons do u think would see it say http://mirc.com and click it immediatly not even knowing they had set this wrong ...... then bam u could have THOUSANDS of users infected with a virus that could have been easily stopped had this suggestion not been implimented ...... it is a HORRID idea
