What i would like to see is a new switch for /window that doesn't show Tips if a @window is active and is on the desktop because it's annoying to see Tips whereas mirc is the last active window and as window, most of the time, doesn't take all the screen, you could always seen what happen.

This probably shouldn't even need a switch-- I consider mIRC to be the active application even when the specific window that's active is a desktop one (and not a child of the main window).. and tips shouldn't be displayed when the application is active.

I don't know about that.

If a channel is a desktop window and is the active window, then a tip is generated for a non-desktop window query, then it should generate a tip; even though mIRC has the active window, the tip is generated for a window in the non-active part of the application..

So you think it's a bug ? I'm not sure mIRC is the active application when a desktop window is active.

And, what do you mean by :

A 'child' window is a window inside of the main application, a desktop windows (although initiated by and part of the same application) is not inside of the main application.

I am not personally sure if the best solution would be not showing tips when a desktop window is active (treat it as if mirc is still active application), or to treat it differently since the main application can be hidden/minimized while the mire deskstop window is still active.

So maybe the best solution is to put the behavior in the users hands, add an option in the tips configuration dialog to toggle this behavior.

so, how the window can be 'child' and 'desktop' for mIRC ?
