This already exists. Each person simply needs to type:

/join #3wayquery

while Im neither for or against it, this could be scripted easily - granted, that's not any kind of answer about adding the option on, just saying is all smile

I honestly don't think this would be much use to people. As mentioned, all you need to do is join an empty channel. If you don't want anyone popping in on you, set it to Invite Only. You can then have a 3-way, 4-way, etc. conversation just like you would if you were in a query. Also, this allows more than just a 3-way conversation, where adding it to mIRC would only cover 3-way. Even if you started adding additional numbers that can be included, it would have to stop at some point. A channel is always available for such things and has no limit.

And, if you really want it to be a query for some reason, you could just use a script that forwards the text to each person. Only one of you would need the script and it would work just fine. Still, a channel is the best option, imo.

Channels are part of the IRC protocol specifically to solve this problem of "more than two people" communication. It's a direct part of the very essence of IRC, even though it's a very implicit concept.

Joining a "private" channel (+p, +s, or +i) and inviting two other people is probably the best way to have "three way private messaging" anyway, because no one would ever need to feature request "four way private messaging"-- you just invite the fourth user to the channel.. or the fifth, or the sixth, etc.

Obviously, channels are the best way to accomplish a "multi-client query." On another note, however, multi-client DCCs (loops) may be significantly more useful, especially in the event SSL DCC is implemented and clients desire their traffic to be private, but do not have the capacity needs to make setting up a secure IRCd worthwhile. I assume the only way to effectively accomplish this would be to have direct connections with each participant--else mIRC is acting as an IRCd, anyway.

Though this doesn't seem to have a ton of application right now, I'm a general advocate for seeing mIRC become a client capable of direct and secure communications. As far as I know, there aren't really a lot of other low-resource yet direct/secure ways for even two people to easily communicate, let alone three.

So, why do 2-way queries exist? We also have private notices .....

Those are IRC commands. 3-way isn't part of IRC.
