I hope it's a false positive as my anti-virus didn't pick up any viruses.

Furthermore, why will a well-known, well respected IRC client want to ruin its reputation? Think about that for a minute.

Additionally, Norton (aka NOD) has a known reputation of returning a false positive with mIRC.

Norton and NOD32 are unrelated products.

I use NOD32 and it didn't detect anything.

My apologies...I thought NOD was made by the same people that make Norton.

False positives are regularly returned by a range of antivirus products when running or installing mIRC. This is most likely due to the fact that some trojans do manipulate some of mIRC's default files, or "zombies" make use of mIRC to connect to IRC servers. Nevertheless, downloading mIRC from this website is an absolute guarantee that there is no virus or trojan in the installer package, so you can go ahead and install mIRC safely.
