Hey, I've been on IRC for a while now... and I always change nicks because I pick crappy ones, can anyone think of any good long term nicknames? I don't want something cheesy lol

I'm female BTW

Nicks - Don't we use 'em to recognize some person/fellow (and thus everything we ascribe to that person, not that nick) - by that nick?
So, the best nick would be: any nick you keep in the long run smile

Formal qualities are (imho):
- easy to read
- easy to type
- not too long but distinct (easy to recognize)

Building on what Horstl said, you can think about hobbies and interests that you have and see if that gives you any ideas. For example, my nick (minus the 2 that is only there because I forgot my login with the other one and made a new account here) was chosen as a name for a role playing character in a fantasy game. I liked it, so kept using it for everything else. Some people pick names of characters from video games that they like. Others just use their real name or a version of it. It's all up to you. Pick something that you like and that fits your personality. Just avoid hard to type nicks where people have to keep looking to see how it's spelled or ones with a lot of symbols as those are a pain to type as well.

First letter (or first few letters) + Tab key. grin

laugh Tab nick completion can get you into trouble sometimes, too.

Many people use a nick for more than just IRC, so it's better to stick to something that is easier to type than some weird nick that people have to look closely at. That's all I'm saying. smile
