Hey:

There's this one person I need to ban, but his brother uses the same IP, and we don't want to ban him.

Is there anyway to do this?

Cheers,

Sam

Include the nick and/or ident information in the ban.

nick!ident@host/IP

Rather than banning *!*@host/IP, you can ban *!ident@host/IP or nick!ident@host/IP. Obviously, those can be bypassed by changing that information, but you can't really avoid that if you want to allow one in and not the other.

If both use clients separately installed, try a ban *!USER@host/ip - including the user part. Of course, this can be changed easily, if one knows how...

Alternatively, if they are both using different clients and the network is using the Unreal IRCd you can also ban by realname/gecos with +b ~r:realname_goes_here
(see extended bantypes)
Or if you're using ChanServ and his nick is registered, you can also add him to the access list with a level matching or lower than NOJOIN (basic NOJOIN level is -1, see /msg chanserv help level desc and help levels list)
So yeah, you have a couple of options, none foolproof when they're using the same host.

Bascially, i can ban his name, but as soon as he changes it (For kicks he's been coming in with different names, been looking at his range to see if it's him), he'd no longer be banned.
Damn.

Gotta' get his brother to get his own Internet package, then. laugh

Cheers, for all the answers,

-Sam

You could also /invite the good guy into the channel and voice him (to allow him to talk through the ban).

Along the same lines, you could set a password for the channel, that only the "good guy" knows. smile
