I have bee using Latest version of Mirc and my PC sometime just stops and goes to a Black screen when downloading. No way to get it back apart from turning off and back on again. I then downgraded to a previous version, PC now just freezes when downloading, and stays on what was displayed on the screen. I have to re-start the PC and also delete the download, as before.

I used to have no problems at all with earlier versions.

SO, I went and put on mirc6.1 and that screwed things up even further.

Now when I connect to certain channels I get this error.

Closing Link: 0.0.0.0 ([AbjectSOB] Infected with: Mirc61 (2007/02/26 15.47))

SO I am now stuffed.

I have tried deleating everything and also running anti virus but the message stays there, even though I have put back on the latest version.

ANY Help appreciated on all my problems.

THANKS.

OH, running XP pro, 2.8G Processor, 1G ram, 200G Hard etc.

Well, for whatever reason, that network doesn't want users using 6.10 and they banned you for it. Such bans generally last 24-48 hours and then you'd be able to get back on with another version of mIRC. I don't think that was a smart thing for them to do, but it's their call what to ban on.

As for the errors, I'm not sure. I'd see if anything has changed recently on your computer (new software or something, maybe) in case that's the cause. Other than that, you might try a Restore Point from before it stopped working as that may fix the problem.

You mentioned scanning with antivirus software. I'd also recommend scanning with anti-spyware software such as Spybot: Searh & Destroy or Ad-Aware just to be on the safe side.

Have run every spy, antivirus program I can get my hands on.

My PC just freezes or I get a Black screen and pc just stops when downloading.

I am now back on latest Mirc version but also still get an error message Infected with mirc61 from some chanels.

I have removed almost everything from my PC. All I can think of now is formating hard drive and starting a fresh.

But before I do this drastic action, has anyone got any more help for me.

THANKS.

I'd reccomend just reformating. It's the easiest way, and you'll be
about 100% sure problems wont occur again, if they were caused by a virus or spyware.

I usually avoid a reformat unless it's absolutely necessary. It's supposed to be a last resort. smile

Anyhow, if it's happening only when downloading, then there is a chance it's something to do with your router (if you have one). If that's the case, reformatting won't help you at all.
