What's the exact message from these networks? Often, net admins will install bots to detect modded clients, flood bots and scripts that may proof harmful to the network. Perhaps there is a code in 6.20 which triggers these alarms.

Doubtful.

Usually, these sorts of bans that mention trojans are actually triggered by others who use the same host as you do. Depending on the number of infected computers connecting through a given host, a network may completely g-line that host (and since it's a g-line instead of a k-line, I'm betting that is the case). This can happen a LOT if you use a college network, for example. You may be clean, but you're banned because someone else had a virus or trojan.

Sometimes, certain servers on a network will still let you connect. Even if they don't, these bans can often be set for only 24-48 hours. The best thing you could do would be to contact the network. The website they gave you should have contact information, if the message sent to you when connecting does not.

A word of warning... be wary of clicking any links from IRC, especially ones that say you are infected with something. If you get it when attempting to connect to the server (before you actually connect), then it should be safe. Once you are online, those messages are usually linking you to the virus itself so that you will become infected. This also goes for almost all porn links.

The question remains why did it connect with 6.16 and not 6.20?

Not really a question. If he went back to 6.16, it would probably not connect. It is almost guaranteed that the change in mIRC was a coincidence... unless he didn't get mIRC from an official source and it had a virus, of course. Even then, I doubt it was anything he did that caused it.

G-lines are not usually done because of a single person. If it's just one person, it's usually a k-line. A g-line is usually done when many people on a single host are causing a problem.

You are incorrect. I had the EXACT same problem connecting to undernet using version 6.2. As soon as I reverted to v6.17 it stopped. Something is wrong with mIRC v6.2 And to answer your obvious next question: I got v6.2 linked from mirc.com.

Cant get myself G lined from undernet or dalnet using mirc 6.2, it is possible that they use some lame trojan checking device which is giving false positives. Or a version checker that needs updating.
I am also wondering which servers on those networks produced the G line.

I have used Undernet for years and have never been k-lined or g-lined on it and I've used 6.2 since it came out.

Perhaps there is some issue with certain computer setups. I don't know how it would happen on my system, though, since I JUST built and installed windows on it. Nonetheless, there is some issue between mIRC 6.2, certain systems, and certain servers (that's not vague as all hell...)
